Located on an infill site in a prime residential area of Galway City, to make efficient use of the site zoned low density planning permission was established for three new detached houses.
Completed in 2018 the home owners brief for the first of the new houses was to make the house appear as part of the existing streetscape made up of traditional detached houses. The intention was to make the street aspect of the new house both traditional and modest, making the house appear as part of the established built environment.
Following from this a H shaped plan developed with a more contemporary look to the rear, where the main living spaces are located.
Large windows and sliding doors to the rear allowed us to take full advantage of the prime southerly aspect, creating a strong connection to the garden and also catching some surprisingly good views of Galway Bay from the bedrooms overhead.
