We met with Plan A Design based on very positive feedback from friends of ours who had worked with Michael and Sile previously. From the very start they put us at ease and guided us through the process of building our family home. With a young family, busy jobs and being completely new to the world of design, construction etc. we relied heavily on their advice and recommendations throughout the project. An Ability To Listen And To Understand

From our first meeting with Michael Rice, and after meeting numerous other architects, we knew we had found the right architect to help us successfully complete the construction of our family home. Michael had an ability to listen and really understand how we wanted our home to work for our family and coupled that with excellent attention to detail and problem solving skills. A Unique Twist

Grace and I were put in touch to Plan A design via recommendation from a very close friend. Plan A Design were the first company we contacted about developing plans for our house and it was a great decision to do so. The initial meeting with Micheal was excellent and he took on board all our ideas for what we viewed as our dream house. Once we received his draft plans, it became very clear he had listened to exactly what we wanted whilst also putting his own unique twist on things. Throughout the whole build Micheal was very approachable and knowledgeable and assisted greatly in getting the project delivered within 12 months. We are delighted with the end product and cannot recommend Plan A design (and its staff) enough.

Surpassing Expectations

We engaged Plan A Designs to undertake the restoration and extension of an 1820s house from design and planning permission through to completion. The brief was to meld traditional building techniques with 21st century technology to create a comfortable and efficient holiday home. 

The project – a terraced house located in an architectural conservation area - was extensive and challenging, not least because as clients we were living six thousand miles away. Over a four-year period we were unable to meet onsite more than a few times a year. We relied entirely on Michael and Síle’s excellent communication skills back and forth via Skype, Whatsapp, telephone, and email across an 8-hour time difference to keep the project on track and moving forward. 

Síle and Michael recommended a team when it was time to go to tender, from the quantity surveyor to the structural engineer/assigned certifier. Once the contractors came on board, the entire team worked together very seamlessly. 

Michael oversaw the project management on our behalf working closely with our contractor. He guided us through all the challenges – such as the need for unforeseen structural work. All unforeseen issues were explained and solutions recommended. Michael was extremely thorough in terms of how the project was administered, ensuring that all financial aspects were verified before payments were recommended. All safety and regulatory standards for materials and installation were not only met but documented. 

The completed project has surpassed our expectations. We love the historic renovation and the new extension and how Síle dealt with the challenges of light and space presented by the site. They made a challenging job seem easy; moreover, they did it with enormous patience, grace and a sense of calm. Quite simply, this project would never have been possible without them doing all that they did on our behalf, and it was a pleasure working with them.

One Year In And Delighted

Michael/Plan A Design was recommended to us be two different friends who had used him/them for their builds. We had no building experience (and little building knowledge) so it was great to work with someone so knowledgeable.

Everything from the initial requirements/contracts/design, then development and through to the build completion was dealt with comprehensively and relatively seamlessly with Michael/Plan A. We are now over a year in our house and are delighted with the result.
